The road bike eldorado around Eugendorf |
|
The town of Eugendorf with its 6.500 residents is also known as the ˜Gateway to Salzburg” and lies on the northern border of the county capital Salzburg. Located at the foot of the Tennengebirg mountain range Eugendorf is particularly well situated for tours into the county in every thinkable direction. Unspoiled nature, rich historical and cultural heritage and excellent cuisine are what you can expect on you road bike holiday at the Gastagwirt.
Our region hosted the Road Cycling World Championships in 2006. 2007 was the year in which the first Eddy Merckx Classic took place. But also in 2008 & 2009 this classic race was an absolute highlight in the road bike calendar where the world’s best cyclists participated. And of course this year will be no exception.
Many professional road bikers are self-confessed Salzburg County fans and appreciate the beautiful landscape of the region both in summer and winter. Above all the unspoiled nature and the sheer endless beauty spots with one stunning view following the next: the mountain pastures, the crystal-clear lakes, lush meadows, cultivated farming country and cooling forests, all this and more make road bike tours in the Eugendorf region something truly special.
We can highly recommend a stop off at one of the many picturesque lakes along the way or even a combination tour "swim & bike", enjoying a cooling dip and pure relaxation on the shores of Lake Fuschl or Lake Wolfgang for example. A further highlight is the Postalm high altitude plateau and Austria’s largest mountain pasture grazing area. There a loads of mountain hut restaurants where you can have a rest and enjoy local refreshments, many of which lie directly on the route. | |
